Breathless

Jean-Luc Godard’s “Breathless” is a breathy rush through the streets of Paris, as Michel, a petty thief with a penchant for American movies, steals a car and impulsively kills a cop. Wanted by the police, he turns to his American girlfriend Patricia, hoping she’ll flee to Italy with him. Godard’s restless, talky style captures the reckless energy of youth, with Michel’s swagger and hardboiled poses undercut by the film’s grainy, improvisational texture.
