“You are not welcome here.”
District 9 (2009) is a sharp, allegorical critique of apartheid and xenophobia, set in a South African suburb that becomes a refugee camp for stranded aliens. As the Multi-National United company enforces segregation and exploitation, a field agent, Wilco du Preez, contracts a mysterious virus that starts to transform him into an alien. Forced to flee to District 9, he finds himself at the mercy of both human oppressors and alien outcasts, navigating a world where humanity's callousness is mirrored in alien isolation.
