Down Periscope (1996) skewers naval hierarchy with a gleeful, subaqueous screwball comedy. Lieutenant Commander Tom Dodge, a maverick officer, must navigate the treacherous waters of bureaucracy and incompetence to command a submarine. Assigned to the dilapidated Stingray, Dodge faces a crew of bumbling misfits and a vindictive nemesis, Admiral Graham, who rigs a war game to ensure Dodge's failure. Dodge's brilliance and unorthodox tactics turn the tide, but his real battle is against the establishment's inertia and his own checkered past.
