High Society

High Society (2018) charts the ascension of a Seoul academic couple through South Korea’s stratified social hierarchy. The professor, a candidate for the National Assembly, and his painter wife navigate the treacherous waters of political ambition and cultural expectations, their relationship strained by the pressures of climbing the ladder of power and prestige. Director Park Chan-wook's lens captures the couple's struggle for equilibrium between public duty and personal integrity, rendering a critique of contemporary Korean society’s obsession with status and influence.
