Le Trou

In Jacques Becker’s “Le Trou,” four inmates in a French prison meticulously plot their escape through a narrow tunnel beneath the concrete floor. When a new prisoner, Claude Gaspard, joins their cell, they risk betrayal by enlisting him in their clandestine scheme. Over three tense days, the men laboriously break through the concrete with a bedpost, inching closer to freedom via the city’s sewer network. Yet, their escape remains precarious, the claustrophobic confines of their cell mirroring the psychological toll of their daring plan.
