Monsters vs. Aliens eschews conventional superhero narratives in favour of a zany, meta-infused tale of a bride, Susan Murphy, who unexpectedly expands to 49 feet after a meteorite collision on her wedding day. Co-opted by the military and rechristened Ginormica, Susan joins a motley crew of misfit monsters, each endowed with peculiar abilities, in a covert government facility. This animated ensemble piece blends slapstick humour with heartfelt camaraderie, poking fun at genre tropes while exploring themes of identity and acceptance through the lens of its anthropomorphic cast.
