In Ruben Brandt, Counsellor's fairy tale-inflected Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs, a prince, cursed to dwell as a dwarf, quests for the titular footwear to reverse his enchantment. This quest, however, is fraught with complications and challenges that test both his resolve and the boundaries of magical realism. Director and co-writer Eniko Nemeth crafts a visually sumptuous and narratively intricate fable that subverts expectations while delving into themes of identity, transformation, and the enduring allure of fairy tale tropes.
