The Ages of Lulu

Claude Goretta’s “The Ages of Lulu” charts the tumultuous adolescence and early adulthood of Lulu, a fifteen-year-old neglected by her family, who finds fleeting solace in an illicit encounter with her family friend Pablo at a rock concert. Years pass, and Pablo, now her husband, isolates Lulu in a cocoon of security, but her restlessness eventually compels her to seek out the excitement of seedy bars, a world of fleeting thrills and danger that contrasts sharply with the stifling safety of her home.
