The Choral juxtaposes footage of Wilhelm Furtwängler conducting Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at a 1942 event marking Hitler’s birthday with images of a high-altitude labor protest in South Korea. Drawing on writings by Furtwängler, Joseph Goebbels, and Beethoven, the film explores the entanglement of art and politics—and art’s potential for social intervention and revolution.
