“Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?”
Directed by Russell Mulcahy, "The Shadow" (1994) transposes the pulp hero from comic strips to a neon-lit Manhattan, where he faces his nemesis, Shiwan Khan. Armed with the ability to render himself invisible and manipulate human perception, The Shadow wages a high-stakes battle against Khan's scheme to devastate a city with an atomic bomb. Mulcahy's kinetic visuals and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers's brooding charisma offer a stylized, though uneven, homage to the noir sensibilities of the original material.
