“Only their mother can tell them apart.”
Paul Weitz and Peter Weitz’s “Twins” is a brash, body-conscious comedy about the consequences of genetic tampering. Born to a secret experiment aiming for the ideal child, Julius Benedict (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Vincent Benedict (Danny DeVito) diverge wildly in circumstance and character. Julius, the planned specimen, is a towering athlete, while Vincent, a flawed afterthought, becomes a diminutive criminal. The film explores the absurdities of nature versus nurture, as Vincent, cornered by loan sharks, seeks his long-lost brother, setting off a series of chaotic encounters that underscore the absurdity of identity and appearance.
