“An immortal battle for supremacy.”
Underworld (2003) reimagines the age-old conflict between vampires and werewolves as a gritty, urban battle royale. When the lethal vampire Selene falls for the pacifist werewolf Michael, the ancient enmity threatens to consume them both. Balancing balletic action sequences with brooding, atmospheric storytelling, the film casts its protagonists as unlikely lovers in a world where their respective races despise each other. Director Len Wiseman crafts a nocturnal ballet, where shadows and violence serve as the backdrop for a romance that could bring peace or plunge both species into oblivion.
