Illyrio Mopatis is a recurring character in the HBO series Game of Thrones. A fabulously wealthy merchant-prince and Magister of the Free City of Pentos, he is a benefactor of the exiled Targaryens and a longtime ally of the spymaster Varys.
Illyrio brokers the marriage of Daenerys Targaryen to Khal Drogo, hosts their wedding, and presents Daenerys with three petrified dragon eggs; he also introduces the exiled knight Jorah Mormont into Viserys's service. He is later revealed to be part of a group working toward a Targaryen restoration, sheltering Varys and Tyrion Lannister at his manse in Pentos.
