Karl Tanner was a brother of the Night's Watch who, before taking the black, had been a notorious enforcer and cutthroat from Gin Alley in Flea Bottom. His close-quarters fighting style, favouring fast daggers, reflected his origins in the alleys of King's Landing.
In Game of Thrones he becomes the ringleader of the mutineers at Craster's Keep, having taken part in Lord Commander Jeor Mormont's great ranging beyond the Wall.
