Prince Maekar Targaryen is the fourth son of King Daeron II Targaryen and Queen Myriah Martell, and a younger brother of Prince Baelor. A renowned warrior, he and Baelor were known as "the Hammer and the Anvil" for their tactics in the Blackfyre Rebellion.
In A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Maekar attends the tourney at Ashford Meadow with his sons. Prickly and stern yet devoted to his family, he is drawn into a Trial of Seven against the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall, during which he accidentally strikes and kills his own brother Baelor, forever branding himself a kinslayer.
Maekar is the father of Daeron, Aerion, Aegon (the future King Aegon V), and Aemon, who would later serve as Maester Aemon of the Night's Watch. His full role is charted on the Timeline.
