Grand Maester Pycelle was the realm's chief maester and a fixture of the Small Council in HBO's Game of Thrones, having served as the king's personal healer and counsellor across multiple reigns. Though he presented himself as a doddering, harmless old man, he was in truth mentally sharp and politically dangerous, and his deepest loyalty lay not with any king but with House Lannister.
Over the course of the series Pycelle attended kings from Aerys II Targaryen through Robert Baratheon and his heirs, counselled the opening of King's Landing to Tywin Lannister during the sack of the capital, spied for Queen Cersei, was briefly confined to the black cells by Tyrion Lannister, and later testified against Tyrion at his trial for the murder of King Joffrey.
