Tanselle is a Dornishwoman and a member of a troupe of travelling puppeteers and mummers active during the reign of King Daeron II Targaryen. She performs at the tourney at Ashford Meadow, narrating a play with an elaborate Dragon puppet and portraying Jonquil.
She befriends the hedge knight Duncan the Tall, painting his shield with a shooting star over an elm tree at his squire Egg's suggestion. When Aerion Targaryen assaults her company, Duncan intervenes to rescue her. Tanselle appears in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
