Ser Vardis Egen is the captain of the guard at the Eyrie and a knight sworn to House Arryn. Formerly the captain of Jon Arryn's personal guard in King's Landing, he came to serve Lord Robin Arryn and his mother, Lady Lysa Arryn, in the Vale. A knight of some reputation though no longer young, he is described as silver-haired and heavily built.
In Game of Thrones, Ser Vardis meets Catelyn Stark and her prisoner Tyrion Lannister on their approach to the Eyrie. When Tyrion demands a trial by combat, Lysa Arryn names Ser Vardis her champion. He is defeated by the sellsword Bronn, who fights unchivalrously and casts him through the Moon Door to his death.
