Varly is a guardsman sworn to House Stark who serves during the events of the first season of Game of Thrones. He is among the household guards who travel south with Lord Eddard Stark when Eddard is named Hand of the King.
In King's Landing, Varly accompanies Eddard to the throne room to confront King Joffrey Baratheon. He is killed by men of the City Watch when the gold cloaks betray Eddard during the coup that follows King Robert's death.
