The captain of the guard is a Man of Lake-town who commands the town's guard in the late Third Age. In The Hobbit he confronts Thorin's company on their arrival and escorts them to the Master of Lake-town.
In Peter Jackson's Hobbit films the character is named Braga: he arrests Thorin and the dwarves for raiding the armoury and is killed when Smaug's falling body crushes the Master's escaping boat.
