The chief of the guards was an Elf who led King Thranduil's guards in the Woodland Realm of northern Mirkwood. Coaxed by Galion into sampling Dorwinion wine, he fell asleep drunk, allowing Bilbo Baggins to steal his keys and free Thorin and Company from the king's dungeon.
In Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug he is named Elros and given the title Keeper of the Keys, portrayed by Robin Kerr.
