The Master of Lake-town is the elected leader of Esgaroth on the Long Lake during the late Third Age. In Peter Jackson's Hobbit films he is portrayed as a greedy and corrupt official, preoccupied with tolls, taxes and retaining his own power, and attended by his scheming councilor Alfrid Lickspittle.
He reluctantly welcomes Thorin and Company when the Dwarves promise a share of the mountain's riches, but when Smaug attacks Lake-town he flees with the town's gold and is crushed beneath the dragon's falling body. The character is played by Stephen Fry. Chronological details appear in the Timeline. Content is available under CC BY-SA.
