Tom Bombadil is a mysterious and ancient being who dwells in a valley of the Withywindle in the Old Forest with his wife Goldberry. He claims to have existed before the Dark Lord came to Arda, and is known by many names, including Iarwain, Orald, and Forn; his true nature is left deliberately uncertain, though he is widely thought to be one of the Ainur.
Master of his own small country, Tom rescues Frodo and his companions from Old Man Willow and from the Barrow-wights, and proves wholly immune to the One Ring, able to wear it without vanishing. He appears on screen for the first time in the second season of The Rings of Power, portrayed by Rory Kinnear.
