Agatha Doowuese Akaahar

Drawing from both independent filmmaking and television writing, my journey as a writer has been rooted in creating stories that explore complex human experiences and social realities. As the writer, director, and independent producer of the psychological thriller OH!!!, I developed the project from concept to completion, rewriting the script multiple times; including significant revisions during production, to strengthen the story and adapt to creative challenges. This experience sharpened my skills in narrative structure, character development, and collaborative storytelling while giving me a practical understanding of how writing translates to the screen. ‎

‎Since then, I have expanded my work into both film and television. My short film Black Sands, a war drama exploring the crisis in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, was selected as one of three finalists in the Nigeria Through Your Lens competition and has screened at multiple festivals. I also served as a writer on Binta’s Dream, a television drama series focused on girl-child advocacy, education, and the impact of child marriage in Northern Nigeria. Working in the writers’ room, I contributed to story development for two seasons of a total of  27-episode , wrote six credited episodes, and led substantial rewrites to strengthen dialogue, pacing, and thematic cohesion.  ‎

‎My professional development includes participation in the British Council Film Lab Africa Phase Two programme, where I was selected among 30 participants from more than 1,600 applicants. During the intensive training, I developed an anthology episode, created an original television series and pilot script, and pitched original concepts to industry professionals. These experiences, combined with my work in screenwriting, script editing, and story development, have strengthened my commitment to telling authentic, emotionally resonant stories that connect with diverse audiences.  Currently working on a collection of short films, an unofficial anthology of sorts that begins shooting in October.
