Bill Finger

Bill Finger, born Milton Finger in 1914, was the visionary behind the Batman mythos, crafting its dark narrative and complex world despite being largely relegated to ghostwriter status. His contributions, acknowledged in private by Bob Kane but denied in public for decades, left him impoverished and obscure, while Batman’s success propelled Kane to fame and fortune. It was not until the 2000s that Finger’s granddaughter, with the support of biographer Marc Tyler Nobleman and the comics community, reignited efforts to recognize Finger’s legacy. In 2015, DC Comics finally granted him co-creator status, belatedly acknowledging his profound influence on one of the most iconic figures in pop culture.
