Charlie Chaplin, born in 1889, redefined silent film comedy with his iconic mime and slapstick routines, most notably through his character The Tramp. Debuting in "Kid Auto Races at Venice" in 1914, Chaplin quickly rose to prominence, not only acting but also writing and directing his works from 1914, producing them by 1916, and composing their music by 1918. Co-founding United Artists in 1919, Chaplin's influence extended beyond the silent era, though his output dwindled in the late 1920s. By 1999, his enduring legacy earned him the title of the 10th greatest male screen legend by the American Film Institute.
