Dan Butler

Daniel Eugene Butler, born December 2, 1954, in Huntington, Indiana, is an American playwright and actor best known for his portrayal of Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe on the sitcom Frasier. Raised in Fort Wayne, the son of a pharmacist and a homemaker, Butler's openly gay identity is a cornerstone of his career, notably featuring in Terrence McNally's play The Lisbon Traviata and his own autobiographical Off-Broadway production, The Only Thing Worse You Could Have Told Me.... In 1994, he revealed his homosexuality on Entertainment Tonight during his tenure on Frasier, where his character was a swaggering heterosexual, creating a stark contrast between his personal life and his role. Butler's partner is Richard Waterhouse, an acting teacher and director.
