Edgar Buchanan, born in 1903 in Missouri, was a versatile actor who navigated a career in both film and television, despite his father's insistence that he become a dentist. After earning his dental degree and marrying fellow graduate Mildred Spence, Buchanan left Oregon for California, where he joined the Pasadena Playhouse and transitioned fully to acting. His filmography includes over a hundred roles, from period dramas like "Penny Serenade" and "The Man from Colorado" to Westerns such as "Shane" and "Ride the High Country." Buchanan is perhaps best remembered for his role as Uncle Joe Carson in the 1960s sitcoms "Petticoat Junction," "Green Acres," and "The Beverly Hillbillies," where he presided over the Shady Rest Hotel.
