Eijirō Tōno

Eijirō Tōno, a Japanese actor with a career spanning over five decades, left an indelible mark on cinema and television, appearing in over 400 TV shows and nearly 250 films, alongside numerous stage productions. Renowned for his roles in Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai and Yojimbo, and Yasujirō Ozu's Tokyo Story and An Autumn Afternoon, Tōno also starred in Kihachi Okamoto's Kill! and the historical epic Tora! Tora! Tora!. His versatility was on full display in Juzo Itami's A-ge-man, his final film, after decades of defining performances, including his long-running portrayal of Mito Kōmon in the television series. Initially acting under the name Katsuji Honjo, Tōno’s enduring legacy is a testament to his prolific and varied career.
