Jimmy Wang Yu

Jimmy Wang Yu, born Wang Zhengquan in 1944, rose to martial arts stardom in 1967 with his titular role in "The One-Armed Swordsman," a Shaw Brothers production that cemented his place in the genre. His performance in "The Chinese Boxer" two years later is often cited as the progenitor of Hong Kong's bare-handed combat films, which would dominate the Asian screen through the ensuing decade. Beyond acting, Wang was a prolific director, producer, and screenwriter, shaping the landscape of kung fu cinema until his death in 2022.
