Joanna C. Going, born in Washington, D.C., in 1963, is an American actress raised in Newport, Rhode Island, where she grew up in the historic Isaac Bell House, a National Historic Landmark. The eldest of six siblings, she graduated from Rogers High School and pursued acting studies at Emerson College and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her formative years were marked by her father's role as a state assemblyman and lawyer, and her mother's work as a police dispatcher, shaping her early exposure to public service and the arts.
