Joel Coen

Joel Coen, born in 1954, is half of the Coen brothers, a filmmaking duo celebrated for their genre-bending and satirical narratives. With Ethan, he crafts films that skewer and honor classic styles, from noir to Western, with a signature dark humor. Notable works like "Fargo," "The Big Lebowski," and "No Country for Old Men" showcase their adeptness at blending genres and subverting expectations. Despite sharing creative duties, regulatory distinctions once required sole credits; since 2004, they're credited equally, including as directors and producers under the alias Roderick Jaynes. Individually, Joel directed "The Tragedy of Macbeth" in 2021. Their collaborative output has garnered numerous accolades, including an Academy Award for Best Picture for "No Country for Old Men.
