John Romita Sr.

John Victor Romita, born in 1930 and passing in 2023, was a pioneering American comic book artist whose career at Marvel Comics reshaped the landscape of superhero art. Best known for his work on "The Amazing Spider-Man," Romita co-created iconic characters like Mary Jane Watson and the Punisher, and his dynamic, romantic style revitalized Spider-Man's image, propelling the series to the top of Marvel's sales charts. After early work at Timely Comics and a stint at DC, Romita's return to Marvel in 1965 marked a turning point, both for his career and the industry. As Marvel's art director, he influenced the aesthetic of countless issues, earning a place in the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
