Kyōko Kagawa

Kyōko Kagawa, born in 1931, is a Japanese actress whose career spans several decades, marked by notable roles in masterworks by Akira Kurosawa, Yasujiro Ozu, and Kenji Mizoguchi. After winning a prestigious New Face nomination, she joined Shintoho, balancing acting with entrance exams for a regular company. A brief hiatus from the industry followed her move to New York and the birth of her child, but she returned to Japan in 1968, adapting to television and stage as film attendance waned. Her contributions to cinema earned her the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 1998 and the Order of the Rising Sun in 2004.
