Luis Buñuel, born in 1900 and died in 1983, was a Spanish filmmaker renowned for his avant-garde surrealism and biting social satire. Collaborating with Salvador Dali, Buñuel pioneered cinematic surrealism with "Un Chien Andalou" (1929) and "L'Age d'Or" (1930). His career spanned five decades, from the silent era to the 1970s, during which he produced politically charged works like "Viridiana" (1961) and "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" (1972), the latter earning him an Academy Award. Buñuel’s films, including "Belle de Jour" (1967) and "That Obscure Object of Desire" (1977), critique societal norms with a blend of artistry and subversion, earning him critical acclaim and numerous awards, including five Cannes prizes.
