Massimo Ranieri

Massimo Ranieri, born Giovanni Calone in Naples in 1951, rose from singing at local events as a child to international stardom under his stage name. Discovered at ten, he briefly recorded as Gianni Rock before re-emerging in 1966 with TV appearances and a string of hits, including "O Sole Mio," which solidified his status as a teen idol. Transitioning to acting, his debut in "Metello" earned critical acclaim and an award, while his subsequent roles, including in "La Sciantosa" and the historical drama "Salvo D'Acquisto," showcased his versatility. Between 1971 and 1973, he represented Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest, placing fifth and thirteenth, respectively, alongside a turbulent personal life marked by estrangement from his daughter Cristiana.
