Omar Sharif, born in 1932 to a Syrian-Lebanese merchant family in Alexandria, was a prodigious student at Victoria College and Cairo University, where he excelled in mathematics and physics. His discovery of theater classes led him to stardom, initially in Egypt and then globally after his transformative role as Prince Sherif Ali in David Lean’s “Lawrence of Arabia” in 1962. This turn marked his departure for Hollywood, where he secured a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor, establishing a lasting professional bond with Peter O'Toole.
