Park Hyunki was a pioneering figure in Korean video art and one of the first artists in Korea to make sustained use of video as an artistic medium. In contrast to Nam June Paik, whose career developed largely outside Korea and who returned to Korea in 1984 after many years abroad, Park had begun incorporating moving-image media into his work by the late 1970s. His practice developed a distinctive approach to video in relation to sculpture, installation, and performance.
