Patrick Joseph McGoohan, born in 1928 and passing in 2009, was an American actor who grew up in Ireland and England, amassing a formidable career in theater and film. He is best known for his roles in the television series Danger Man, where he played a suave secret agent, and The Prisoner, a cerebral series he co-wrote and directed under pseudonyms. McGoohan's acting range also found him in episodes of the popular detective series Columbo, earning him two Emmy Awards, and later in the medieval epic Braveheart as the tyrannical King Edward I. His versatility and control over his craft made him a unique figure in 20th-century entertainment.
