Pete Postlethwaite

Pete Postlethwaite, born in Warrington in 1946, was a versatile English actor whose career spanned stage, film, and television. After minor roles in shows like The Professionals, he gained recognition for his performance in the 1988 film Distant Voices, Still Lives. His repertoire included memorable roles in The Usual Suspects, Alien 3, and In the Name of the Father, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. On television, his portrayal of the villainous Sergeant Obadiah Hakeswill in the Sharpe series opposite Sean Bean was particularly notable. Postlethwaite's career was capped with an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2004, and he earned the praise of Steven Spielberg as "the best actor in the world." His career was cut short by pancreatic cancer in 2011.
