Richard Widmark, an American actor active from the 1940s through the 2000s, was best known for his Oscar-nominated debut as the malevolent Tommy Udo in "Kiss of Death." Early in his career, Widmark carved out a niche for himself in film noirs, portraying villainous and anti-hero characters. As he aged, he diversified, taking on leading roles in westerns, dramas, and horror films. At his death in 2008, Widmark was the oldest surviving Oscar nominee from the 1940s and boasts a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. He was also inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame in 2002.
