Rob Reiner, born in 1947, rose from the sitcom ranks as Michael "Meathead" Stivic on "All in the Family" to become a versatile filmmaker, directing a roster of acclaimed pictures that range from the mockumentary "This Is Spinal Tap" to the romantic drama "When Harry Met Sally...". His work earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards, a Hugo Award, and numerous Golden Globe nominations, with three films inducted into the National Film Registry. Beyond the silver screen, Reiner was a vocal advocate for liberal causes, founding the American Foundation for Equal Rights and campaigning for early childhood education.
