Suzu Hirose

Suzu Hirose, born in 1998 in Shizuoka, Japan, rose to prominence as the football-playing Suzu Asano in Hirokazu Kore-eda’s 2015 film adaptation of Akimi Yoshida’s manga, "Umimachi Diary." In the film, she joins her estranged half-sisters in Kamakura after their father’s death, a role that earned her the Japan Academy Prize for Newcomer of the Year and a Best New Actress nod from Kinema Junpo. Hirose’s compelling portrayal in "Chihayafuru," a series of films based on Yuki Suetsugu’s comic about karuta card games, further cemented her status, garnering additional accolades and establishing her as a leading figure in Japanese cinema.
