Takashi Miike, born in 1960, is a Japanese filmmaker whose prodigious output since 1991 includes over a hundred theatrical, video, and television projects. His work spans extremes, from the violent and surreal to the dramatic and wholesome, cementing his reputation as a provocateur and a versatile storyteller. Miike’s prolificacy is particularly notable in 2001 and 2002, when he released fifteen films, challenging conventional notions of cinematic craft and creativity.
