Tetsuro Tamba

Tetsuro Tamba, a Japanese actor of unparalleled versatility who spanned five decades, is best remembered for his role as Tiger Tanaka in "You Only Live Twice," bridging Eastern and Western cinema. Before his acting career, Tamba served as an interpreter for the Allied Powers' Supreme Commander and graduated from Chuo University in 1948. His debut in "Satsujin Yougishain" in 1951 marked the start of a prolific career, which included notable roles in "Bridge to the Sun" and "The 7th Dawn," as well as leading police dramas like "Key Hunter." Beyond films, Tamba lent his voice to Studio Ghibli’s "The Cat Returns" and starred in historical TV dramas, leaving an enduring legacy that continues through his son, actor Yoshitaka Tamba. Despite facing health issues in his later years, Tamba made his final appearances in the Taiga drama "Yoshitsune" and the film "Sinking of Japan" before passing away in 2006.
