Victoria Abril, born Victoria Mérida Rojas in 1959, is a Spanish actress and singer who gained international recognition for her role in Pedro Almodóvar's "Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!" After rising to prominence in Spain with her television debut in 1976, she has since worked extensively in France, Italy, and Iceland, earning eight Goya Award nominations and a Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival for "Amantes." Abril's musical career includes a bossanova-jazz album and a failed attempt to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest. Married to former Chilean footballer Gustavo Laube and later to French director Gérard de Battista, she now resides in France with her sons.
