Vittorio De Sica
Vittorio De Sica, an Italian director and actor who flourished in the neorealist movement, directed four films that earned Academy Awards: Sciuscià and Bicycle Thieves (honorary), and Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow and Il giardino dei Finzi Contini (Best Foreign Language Film). Sciuscià and Bicycle Thieves, the former marking the first foreign film to receive an honorary Oscar, solidified the Best Foreign Language Film category. Bicycle Thieves, deemed one of the most influential films in cinema history by Turner Classic Movies, stands alongside Sciuscià as a classic. De Sica's acting, notably in the 1957 film A Farewell to Arms, where he played Major Rinaldi, was critically acclaimed despite the film's commercial failure.
