William Schallert

William Joseph Schallert, a character actor whose career spanned over six decades, was a fixture on television from the 1950s through the 1980s, known for roles in series like "Richard Diamond, Private Detective," "Death Valley Days," and "The Patty Duke Show." Born in Los Angeles in 1922, Schallert left UCLA to serve in World War II, returning to graduate in 1946 and launch a theatrical career that included a Charlie Chaplin-directed production of "Rain." His television work ranged from "The Adventures of Superman" to "The Dick Van Dyke Show," alongside film appearances in "The Bridges of Toko-Ri," "The Apartment," and "The Sting." Survived by his wife and four children, Schallert's enduring presence on screen marked him as a reliable and versatile actor.
