Devna was a female Orion trapped in Elysia, a pocket of space where vessels from across time were held. There she served as the Interpreter of Laws for the Elysian Council and was also known as a skilled dancer who longed to see Orion again.
In 2269, Devna explained the nature of Elysia to Captain James T. Kirk and the Klingon commander Kor after their ships became stranded there, warning that any violent act would freeze the offender for centuries. Though resigned to life in Elysia, she ultimately promised not to hinder the combined crews' attempt to escape, and witnessed their success.
