Dixon Hill is a fictional 20th-century private detective within the Star Trek universe, the lead character of the Dixon Hill series of novels and their later film and holonovel adaptations. His hard-boiled, two-fisted gumshoe adventures are set in San Francisco, California, in 1941.
Dixon Hill was a childhood hero of Jean-Luc Picard, a fascination the captain carried into adulthood. Picard programmed a holodeck simulation of the character aboard the USS Enterprise-D, and after the ship's holodecks were upgraded in 2364 he was able to step into the role of the private investigator himself.
As an in-universe fictional persona brought to life on the holodeck, Dixon Hill sits at the intersection of Star Trek's storytelling and its recurring holoprogram settings. This overview summarizes information drawn from Memory Alpha; see the Timeline for a chronological account.
